The above price is for units without a stoker.  (This means you will have to feed it wood and/or coal by hand).  We recommend having a stoker opening installed at the factory so the unit can be upgraded to a self feeding unit in the future. The stoker opening is an additional $450.  If you choose to upgrade in the future, the stoker alone is approx. $7500.

It is a lot of money..............We have a ML 36 in use in Seward.  Our heating / hot water bill will drop this year from about  $14,000 to $2,500.  We will pay for our Portage and Main in less than 2 years.  After that, it will pay us $10,000+ per year.

Coal bins can be pre-made and delivered with your unit or homemade from wood, concrete or steel. They can be loaded with an auger or loader.  The coal can be gravity fed directly into the boiler or be moved with a cross auger from a large coal bin to a small (i.e. 1000 lbs.) hopper attached to the Portage and Main.

Coal will freeze together, so the hopper feeding the boiler needs to be above freezing temperatures.  This is easily done with insulation and a heat loop from the boiler.

Come and look at a Portage and Main Boiler and see for yourself.
